What Not to Say, and Why, During Your Jail Stay

There are some things you’ll want to watch out for, and a few things you don’t really want to say while you’re waiting for the bail bond company so you can get released. Don’t talk about the charges against you, especially if it’s a sex offense arrest. Don’t snitch, and don’t use inflammatory words toward other prisoners, such as “bitch” or “punk.” That could get you into a lot of trouble with an angry inmate.

It’s a good idea to keep to yourself as much as possible, but that doesn’t mean completely ignoring all the other inmates or coming off as too timid. Just keep your cool and don’t interact unless you need to. Most other inmates won’t pay much attention to you, anyway, so you can do your own thing and follow the rules until you’re released.

Staying Positive is Important

That doesn’t mean laughing and smiling all the time, but you’ll want to avoid crying if you can. That’s not looked upon very nicely, and you could find that some inmates see you as an easy target or think that you look weak. If you have to cry, do it quietly after lights out, where others can’t see or hear you.

Just like you don’t want to be too timid, you also don’t want to be too tough. That can make other inmates want to challenge you. There are very few hardcore people in a county jail, but there can be some. Most of the inmates you’ll be around are weekend offenders who haven’t done anything serious. They aren’t much of a threat, but anyone can be provoked.
